OAKLAND, Calif. (TND) — Safeway has removed self-checkout machines at several stores in the San Francisco Bay Area following a rise in theft, according to KRON.
The supermarket chain is reportedly removing the machines to crack down on shoplifting.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (WPEC) — One person died after a small plane crashed into a building in Florida, according to sheriff's authorities. Deputies said the crash occurred at 12:04 p.m. Thursday near Fort Pierce at the intersection of Sneed Road and Orange Avenue.
The plane hit a building with an RV inside, according to the St. Lucie County Fire Rescue Department. No one was inside the building.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — State police say a man and woman in Bedford County are both facing child abuse-related charges after a 1-year-old was treated for facial and abdominal injuries earlier this year.
Investigators say on March 9th, troopers were contacted by staff at UPMC Altoona after a female toddler was brought to the emergency room and treated for "bruising and petechiae" to her face and abdomen.
Police say hospital staff also discovered scratches to the child's face and body and expressed concerns that the toddler was being abused. Read More...
