BEDFORD CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to a release from the Department of Corrections and Bedford County Commissioners, three employees at the Bedford County Prison have been fired from their positions following an organizational review of the facility.
Authorities say in Nov. 2020, the DOC and Commissioners partnered to conduct an organizational review of the Bedford County Correctional Facility, following an employment investigation in September.
Officials say both the Warden and deputy warden were placed on administrative leave during the time of the investigation, and Deputy Superintendent Bobbi Jo Salamon, from SCI Houtzdale, served as the acting Warden.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the DOC announced that its "employment relationship" with Warden Troy Nelson and Deputy Wardens Rocky Bernazzoli and Jason Moore has ended.
Captain Joseph Eichenlaub, from SCI Smithfield, will take over as Acting Warden, the DOC adds.
Investigators have provided their findings from the facility's review to county commissioners, and are making suggestions on how to increase safety and security within the facility, improve the workplace environment for correctional facility employees, and enhance the overall facility for the inmate population and their experience with the facility.
Specific details about the findings of the review, which led to the Warden and deputies termination of employment, were not provided.
