Amid COVID-19, churches prepare for in person services on Palm Sunday

Amid COVID-19, Lakeside United Methodist Church in DuBois started to do virtual services last year.

Pastor Brett Dinger said they launched in person services last June but shut down around Thanksgiving.

"I got COVID, so we had to shut down again cause I got COVID. But we've been back consistently since the beginning of February," said Brett Dinger, Senior Pastor at Lakeside United Methodist Church.

In preparation for Palm Sunday, Dinger said the pews are distanced with green stickers and people are encouraged to wear masks.

They plan to have two services on Easter Sunday.

"We're just going to celebrate Palm Sunday, we're going to prepare ourselves for holy week we are going to do palm branches and sing some of our favorite songs but we're going to do so in a safe manner," he said.

Christ Lutheran Church also preparing for Palm Sunday.

"Attendance has been increasing over the past few weeks as folks are getting vaccinated and getting two weeks beyond vaccinations we've seen some people coming back," said Amy Godshall-Miller, Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church.

Pastor Amy Godshall-Miller said they've put up barriers in the church to promote social distancing and only six people are limited to each pew.

"We're having Sunday School for the first time in a long time this week and including and involving our children in a palm procession. Then on Easter Sunday bringing our Hallelujahs back into worship," she said.

Both pastors say they're happy to celebrate Jesus' resurrection in person with their congregation.
