DuBois City police officer dies in Jefferson County car crash

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A DuBois City and Sandy Township police officer was killed in a car crash in Jefferson County Monday night while off duty.

Police said 33-year-old Patrick Straub died after the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle.

According to police, 32-year-old Corey Williams of Reynoldsville lost control of his Jeep Cherokee on state Route 219 around 7:10 p.m. and struck Straub's Toyota.

Straub and Williams was pronounced dead at the scene and two passengers in his vehicle were taken to Penn Highlands for minor injuries.

"It's a sad day in the City of DuBois and Sandy Township. (He) was a very nice guy and he was a really great police officer, a great just all around guy. The community is going to miss him," said DuBois City Manager Herm Suplizio.

The DuBois City Police Department said Straub was a five-year veteran of the department. He is survived by his wife and three-year-old daughter.

He has also previously worked as deputy sheriff in Elk County and with the Emporium Police Department.

The viewing for Officer Straub is Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home in St. Marys.

The funeral will take place Friday at noon at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in St. Marys.

His burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
