Lawnmowers sold at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware recalled due to injury hazard

UNDATED (WKRC) - Lawnmowers sold at Lowes, Home Depot and Ace Hardware, among other stores, were recalled due to a possible injury hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), around 200 additional lawnmowers were recalled on top of the 391,800 lawnmowers and pressure washer engines recalled in September of 2023.

Per the organization, the recall involves the following Honda products:

  • Honda HRN216 lawnmower
  • Honda HRX217K6 lawnmower
  • GCV170/200 G5B general-purpose engines used in power washers and lawnmower replacement engines

The CPSC reported that the improperly manufactured camshafts in the engine can potentially cause the starter rope to suddenly retract when pulling to start, which could cause an injury.

Honda received 2,966 reports of incidents related to camshaft failures since the recall last year, in addition to the 2,197 reported incidents in the initial September recall. There have been 38 reports of minor injuries related to the issue, per the CPSC.

The products were sold at the following locations, from May 2022 through June 2023:

  • Honda Power Equipment dealers
  • Ace Hardware
  • Home Depot
  • Lowes
  • Northern Tool
  • Various farm, agricultural and rental stores nationwide

Those who purchased one of the affected products were advised to cease use immediately and contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to schedule an appointment for a free inspection and repair.
