VERDICT |
Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — A Huntingdon County jury convicted Cole Campbell of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault in the death of Timothy Skipper Jr.
Sentencing is scheduled for January.
DAY 3 |
Testimony concluded Thursday in the homicide trial of Cole Campbell, a Three Springs man who is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor last year.
The third day of testimony included the defense calling Campbell's father-in-law to the stand.
He claimed that he only had one interaction with the victim, 40-year-old Timothy Skipper Jr., prior to the shooting.
He testified that Skipper had also confronted him about allegedly speeding through the neighborhood and that during that confrontation, Skipper allegedly brandished a firearm that he had underneath his jacket.
Prosecutors questioned the testimony and claimed that it was similar to a story that Campbell had talked about a separate encounter between he and Skipper.
The prosecution argued that while there is video evidence of the shooting that killed Skipper, there is no such evidence of these other alleged encounters.
Closing arguments are scheduled to begin Friday morning.
DAY 2 |
The trial of Cole Campbell, who is accused of shooting and killing his 40-year-old neighbor at a residence in Clay Township, in April of last year, continued Wednesday in Huntingdon County.
On Wednesday, the jury heard testimony from the forensic expert who performed the autopsy on Timothy Skipper Jr.
He testified that Skipper was first shot in the leg, a wound that would have "immobilized" him.
The forensic expert then testified that the next two shots fired by Campbell were what killed Skipper.
Throughout Wednesday's testimony, Campbell's defense argued that Skipper was "not an innocent man" and stated that he was a convicted felon and former drug user.
The defense also continued to argue that Campbell acted in self-defense.
In response, the forensic expert testified that no drugs or alcohol were found in Skipper's system during the autopsy.
Prosecutors are scheduled to continue calling witnesses into Wednesday evening.
The judge told the jury that the Commonwealth will call its last witness on Thursday before the defense presents its case.
DAY 1 |
Cole Campbell appeared in Huntingdon County court on Tuesday for the first day of his homicide trial.
Campbell is accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, 40-year-old Timothy Skipper Jr., in April of 2022, following an argument at his home.
During the first day of the trial, prosecutors played Campbell's home surveillance video which reportedly captured the fatal shooting.
The video appears to show Skipper grabbing the barrel of Campbell's gun, before he was shot.
Campbell's defense argued that Skipper was shot in self-defense and claimed that Campbell had grabbed his gun when he heard Skipper's vehicle coming towards his house.
Prosecutors argued that Skipper had only gone to Campbell's home to confront him about his alleged speeding through their neighborhood.
Campbell's lawyers also claimed that Skipper had a history of drug abuse and was known to be armed himself.
One of the first responders at the scene testified Tuesday that no weapon was found on Skipper's person.
The trial is scheduled to continue Wednesday and last through the end of the week.
