Local waitress credited for saving 2 customers' lives while on the job

There's always pie on the menu at the Corner Coffee Shoppe.

And while the place is known for good food fast, a waitress there is now gaining recognition for her ability to act quickly and save lives.

Hannah Porada has been serving customers at the Corner Coffee Shoppe in Richland Township for a few months.

And in that short time, she has been credited for saving not one, but two lives.

“It's a miracle,” says owner John Ricilli. “Thank God it's a miracle.”

“It's instinct,” says Porada. “I'm also a nurse's aide. I worked in a nursing home. So, I’m used to reacting to things that happen suddenly. I'm very good at remaining calm.”

Porada first jumped into action about a month ago, when a customer started choking in the restaurant. She performed the Heimlich maneuver, saving the man's life. He's since been back to thank her.

Then Wednesday, another emergency. And Porada was in the right place at the right time.

“This person was dead, completely dropped, no heartbeat, down to the ground and Hannah revived them and kept the blood flowing until emergency services came,” Ricilli says.

Porada, who is certified in CPR, saved the woman's life.

“I look at it as though I helped someone,” Porada says. “I mean, they have loved ones. Everybody has somebody that means a lot to them that they would miss them greatly and I’m grateful to be there to help them.”

The owners are now looking into CPR training for their entire staff.

And while Porada won't tell you the secret behind the Corner Coffee Shoppe pies, she does have this advice for those watching:

“Maybe go get the training. You never know when something's gonna happen or occur when someone may need your help. It's very important.”
