2 facing drug charges after deadly Elk County overdose, police say

Two people are facing multiple drug charges after officers responded to a fatal overdose in Elk County Wednesday, according to police.

According to a criminal complaint, Crystal Hause, 37, arranged a meeting through Facebook messages to meet Dustin Smith, 39, in order to purchase drugs for the victim.

Police say that, once Hause obtained the drugs, she delivered them to the victim who then smoked heroin and fentanyl.

According to a criminal complaint, emergency services were called after the victim started displaying signs of an overdose, but they were pronounced deceased when medical personnel arrived at the scene.

Police say that, when they interviewed Hause, she admitted to purchasing the drugs for the victim and that they smoked them together.

According to the criminal complaint, Smith admitted to police that he sold heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine to Hause, and that certain stamped drugs he described were discovered in the victim's purse.

Police say that a search warrant led to the discovery of a piece of foil containing off-white powder, two pen tubes, a lighter, a white glassine wax bag, two cell phones, burnt foil and a black box containing a Ziploc bag of meth and burnt foil.

Court dockets show that Hause and Smith are both charged with two felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, two felony counts of criminal use of a facility and two counts of intent to possess a controlled substance.

Court dockets also show that Hause and Smith are being held at the Elk County prison with preliminary hearings scheduled for Feb. 14.
