HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (WOAI/KABB) — A toddler is dead after being hit by a rideshare driver on Houston's Far North Side.
The deadly accident happened just before 1 p.m. Sunday outside a home off Waverly Drive near Beltway 8 and Hardy Toll Road.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the driver was dropping off a family. After the family got out of the vehicle, Sheriff Gonzalez said the driver "thought his path was clear" and drove off not knowing the little girl was in front and hit the child.
The toddler was rushed to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, deputies said. The little girl was a few months shy of her second birthday.
Sheriff Gonzalez said family members pulled the driver from the vehicle and started beating him up. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
