Centre Co. Commissioners issue Declaration of Disaster Emergency due to localized flooding

The Centre County board of Commissioners issued a Declaration of Disaster Emergency Thursday afternoon as heavy rain caused localized flooding throughout the region.

The Penn's Valley area was impacted by the flooding, including parts of Millheim and Coburn.

Many houses were swamped as creeks crested and overflowed.

Meanwhile, PennDOT officials say multiple roads are closed in Centre County due to localized flooding, according to a press release.

Portions of the following state roadways are closed at this time:

  • Route 45 between Route 445 (North Street) near Madisonburg and Route 235 near Hartleton in Union County. Drivers will follow a detour using Interstate 80 and Route 15. PennDOT expects this closure to be in effect for at least 24 hours.
  • Route 192 between Route 880 and Route 445.
  • Route 445 between Route 45 and Route 192
  • Route 445 between Route 192 and Route 64
  • Route 2011 (Penn Street) between Millheim and Coburn

Motorists are advised to avoid these areas and to follow 511PA for the latest road closures and delays.
